The 2013 IDEC (International Democratic Education Conference) will be held in the USA, hosted by the Patchwork School, in Boulder, Colorado. in collaboration with IDEA, the Institute for Democratic Education in America, an emerging national organization that has already built a strong network of relationships across the U.S. The conference will run from August 4 – 8, with post-conference tours organised for August 9. There are reductions for students and children, but the basic fee appears to be $300 for the conference and $594 for accommodation and food. Further information will be posted at www.idec2013.org .
We have not posted information about EUDEC, the European Democratic Education Community, since September 2009. Since then there has been remarkable progress. The Community now has 33 member schools in 12 countries, and there have been three EUDEC conferences, one of them shared with IDEC.
The 2013 EUDEC conference will run from July 28 to August 2, so it would theoretically be possible to attend the IDEC as well.
De Ruimte in Soest, one of the democratic schools in the Netherlands, will be host. The school has ample space inside and outside. A amphitheatre and meadows are part of the venue terrain, inside there are larger and smaller rooms for all kinds of gatherings.
Dinner will be prepared with help of a professional caterer, and with help of several students. Support in preparation can be provided by attendees of the conference. Your help is highly appreciated, not only in the kitchen, but also else in keeping the place clean and tidy.
Soest has a direct train connection with Utrecht Central Station. There is also a bus stop close by, with a direct connection to Amersfoort Central Station and Hilversum Central Station. The school is trying to arrange bicycles for use by conference attendees.
